Metallic Pearlescent & Iridescent

Metallic colour is a colour that appears to be that of a polished metal. The visual sensation usually associated with metals is its metallic shine. This cannot be reproduced by a simple solid colour because the shiny effect is due to the material's brightness varying with the surface angle to the light source.

Iridescence is the phenomenon of certain surfaces that appear to gradually change colour as the angle of view, or the angle of illumination changes. Examples of iridescence include soap, soap bubbles, butterfly wings as well as certain minerals. It is often created by structural coloration (microstructures that interfere with light).

Pearlescence is a related effect where some or all of the reflected light is white, where iridescent effects produce only other colours. The term "pearlescent" is also used to describe card and paper with a sheen as well as certain paint finishes, usually in the automotive industry, which produce iridescent effects.
